Small Axe Eco Tips July 08

  • Less is the new more. Simplify your life by cutting down on what you own, especially when it comes to cosmetics.
  • Have you tried castile soap? It’s extremely cleansing, extremely gentle, and is the only shower you gel you can also use to mop the floors and do the dishes. Completely bio-degradable, take it camping with you too!
  • Nothing cramps your style like trash. Cut down by buying foods that aren’t processed and over packaged.
  • Recycle, girls! If you don’t have recycling in your are call your local government and find out what they offer. Most major cities offer recycling free of charge, which offers savings on trash pickup.
  • Cloth napkins are super fancy. They’re also good for the environment! You’ll more than make up from what you spend on them by never having to buy paper towels again. When they’re dirty, just drop them in the wash and they’re good as new!
  • Don’t be afraid of resale clothing and vintage threads. Even Carrie Bradshaw touted a thrift store belt throughout the entire Sex and the City Movie.
  • Leather and fur are murder. But if you buy it second hand you had nothing to do with it.
  • Farmer’s markets are amazing! There’s nothing more nutritious than the organic produce grown right in your area, so get online and find the source nearest you.
  • Carry the Small Axe Treehugger Bag whenever you go out to the grocery store. You’ll save paper, save plastic, and look stylish doing it!
  • Want to reduce your waste? Try composting! You can cut your trash down to almost zero and have something to feed your houseplants! Learn How Here.
  • Buy durable. So much more is wasted in poor craftsmanship than in quality. If you ever get tired of your ever-lasting purchase you can sell it to someone who still wants it.
  • Turning heads is never a bad thing. Stop leaving carbon footprints this summer and hop on your trusty roadbike. Maybe you’ll inspire some gawkers to do the same.
  • See that old dress in your closet? That’s your new tablecloth. Look around at everything you have before you go out and buy something new. You’ll be amazed by what you (re)discover.
  • Go paperless. Most of your bills can be paid online now, saving the need for a statement and a check.
  • Messageboards are cute and good for the environment! Instead of writing notes on paper, leave messages for your friends and family on dry erase board.
